Frequently Asked Questions:

Q - What is Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - Stonewall Penitentiary is a first person interactive adventure game by Christopher M. Brendel.

Q - What kind of game is Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - At its core, Stonewall Penitentiary is a gritty thriller combined with a classic "whodunit" mystery element in the style of Agatha Christie novels and Alfred Hitchcock movies.

Q - When did you begin working on Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - The original concept for the game was written in March 2005.  Full production began in July 2005.

Q - Is Stonewall Penitentiary a "story-centric" game like your other works?
A - I'd like to think so.  However, Stonewall Penitentiary is fundamentally different in two key ways:  first, unlike my previous works, Stonewall Penitentiary features a plot-based storyline instead of a character-based one; second, Stonewall Penitentiary takes place over the course of six hours instead of multiple days.  This does not mean that there is no story to speak of, of course!  The story is simply presented in a different manner.  Instead of a rich story filled with character development, Stonewall Penitentiary features an intense story full of twists and turns.

Q - How will I control the game?
A - The game is played through both the mouse and keyboard.  Controls are similar to that of a first person shooter, although the game is 100% adventure.

Q - Will there be a time limit in the game?
A - Although the characters only have until 6:00 am to escape the prison, players can take as long as they want.  There will be no time restraint whatsoever.

Q - Can I die in Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - It is impossible to die while playing Stonewall Penitentiary.

Q - When will Stonewall Penitentiary be released?
A - There is no official release date scheduled at this time.  The move from 2D to 3D has delayed the release, so I would not expect the game before well into 2009.  I apologize for this delay.  Trust me...it will be worth it!

Q - Will there be a demo of Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - Yes!  Before the release of the game, there will be a playable demo released on the web.

Q - What age group is appropriate for Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - Due to its mature themes (involving the schemes of a psychotic murderer), Stonewall Penitentiary is not appropriate for gamers under 17.

Q - How much will Stonewall Penitentiary cost?
A - Though subject to change, I am estimating a cost of $19.99, plus shipping.

Q - Will there be a strategy guide/hint book available?
A - I have not yet decided if I will make a strategy guide this time around.  If I do, however, it will be priced the same as the previous guides, at $7.99.

Q - What computer specs will I need to play Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - As of this time, it is too early to comment.  Check back closer to the game's release date!

Q - How non-linear is Stonewall Penitentiary?
A - The gameplay of Stonewall Penitentiary can be split into two categories:  story development and exploration.  The story of Stonewall Penitentiary unfolds in a linear manner, driving story events in a specific, chronological order.  However, aside from this, there is an exploratory aspect to Stonewall Penitentiary that involves finding specific items and locations; these can be found at any time and in any order throughout the game.

Q - Are there multiple endings?
A - In my original outline for Stonewall Penitentiary, the game featured a different killer every time you play, randomly selected at the start of the game by the computer.  I quickly decided against this, however, as I wanted instead to clearly foreshadow "whodunit" and develop the killer's psyche appropriately (otherwise it wouldn't be much of a story-centric game, would it?).  Nonetheless, however, I am pleased to announce that there are rumored to be two endings to Stonewall Penitentiary.  I will say nothing else on this issue. ;-)

Q - My question is not listed here. What should I do?
A - E-mail me!
